Brian Jenkins joins thatgirlisfunny today with his collection of the Top 10 Weirdest College Courses. As an avid martial artist practitioner, I’m delighted to see that MIT is offering “Street Fighting Math”. I wonder what’s included…complex calculations delivered like judo throws? The Top Ten Weirdest College Courses
College students can play it safe and choose a major in healthcare, information technology, business or another basic subject.
How about majoring in something wacky such as puppetry or surf science and technology, which focuses on the science behind surfing!
Instead of declaring an unusual major, you can also add some pizzazz to college life by taking some weird courses, either wacky online college courses or classes on campus.
Shown below is a list of some of the wackiest sounding college courses.
Zany College Courses
- The Art and Science of Beer (Indiana University) – You can become an expert on the history of beer. I wonder if beer tastings are on the syllabus?
- Cheerleading in American Culture (University of Alabama) – The course is designed to break the stereotypes about cheerleaders.
- How to Watch Television (Montclair) – That’s just silly.
- The Amazing World of Bubbles (Cal-Tech) – It covers the energy potential that bubbles have.
- Cyberfeminism (Cornell) – Oh my.
- Street-Fighting Mathematics(MIT) – The course reviews how to analyze fighting via a mathematical pattern. Perhaps it involves the Pythagorean theory in a weird way.
- Superheroes (Oberlin Experimental College)
- Border Crossings, Borderlands (U of Washington): Transnational Feminist Perspectives on Immigration
- Purity and Porn in America (Alfred U) – This class takes a scholarly look at the subject.
- Sex, Rugs, Salt & Coal (Cornell) – As opposed to sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
If you need an elective to complete your degree or are simply interested in trying something new, be sure to consider one of these fun and zany courses.

Ooh.. I heard of that Matrix course! LOL.
Mine wasn’t weird, per se, but I loved “Cults in North America”. Totally useless but ridiculously entertaining

I took “The Matrix and The Bible.” Explaining how The Matrix used biblical concepts and imagery… It was kinda wacky.

I paid for my own college and only took classes for computer science, networking and business. On my dime… 4.0 student.
I have to imagine if my folks did pay for my college and they caught me taking some of the classes mentioned here I’d still be walking with a limp.

Are these courses for real? Beer Arts & Science? How to Watch TV? LOL! That’s gotta be fun. If they can combine both beer and TV courses, I’m bringing in the popcorn!
