Adventures in living a healthy, juicy life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
Bellator hosted an exciting night of fights featuring the MMA 115lb Women’s Tournament last night (August 12, 2010) in Hollywood, Florida.
Megumi Fujii (20 – 0) advanced to 21 – 0 by defeating a “very strong” fighter called Carla Esparza. Amazingly, Carla found out that she had an opportunity to face Megumi on Saturday! That is incredibly short notice.
But Carla, a two time All-American Wrestler, came in fearless and ready to go. She survived the first round with great kick-boxing and gave the Japanese superstar a run for her money. Megumi is currently regarded as the best pound for pound female MMA fighter in the world.
Carla looked a little slower in the second round and succumbed to a signature armbar from Megumi, 57 seconds into the second round.
Megumi is fun to watch fight. A technical fighter, she holds a black belt in judo and a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu – a powerful combination making her a difficult fighter to beat.
Next up for the women fighters, Jessica Aguilar from American Top Team vs Lynn “Lights Out” Alverez, a classic submission vs striker match-up. Jessica Aguilar dropped an arm triangle choke on Lynn Alverez to finish the fight with less than a minute left in the first round.
