Adventures in living a healthy, juicy life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
Point of View
I’m reminded that we all see things from our own perspective. We each have our own separate opinion on things – even if we grew up in the same family, went to the same schools and live in the same country.
But how can this point of view possibly be helpful?
I wonder if people who grow up believing that it’s ok for your husband to hit you like in Jordan or Mali, where the rates of agreement are high at 90% and 75% respectively, are better able to deal with it?
From my point of view, having permission to hit your wife is abhorrent.
Reading this makes me really glad that I know how to defend myself.
I strongly encourage all women to take a self-defense course – even if you think you’ll never need it. The greatest benefit I’ve achieved from studying martial arts is confidence in setting effective physical boundaries.
You’d be amazed at the number of times I’ve utilized a subtle shift in my body language to change the tone of someone’s conversation from being confrontational to behaving in a more respectful and conciliatory manner towards me.

This is really surprising information. Why should men hitting women be accepted? The world is really getting more and more crazy. And I totally agree with you, this is all the more reason for us women to learn self defense techniques. It’s not important that we become experts or masters but at least we know how. That’s security and protection.
