Adventures in living a healthy, juicy life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
This week’s advice from Yaro Starak from Entrepreneur’s Journey is about leaving comments.
In the beginning, comments were few and far between on thatgirlisfunny. I set a goal to receive twice as many comments as I had posts that were live. It took awhile to have comments on posts coming in on a regular basis.
Mostly, I relied on social media marketing to encourage visits to my blog. But the greatest increase in comments came as a result of joining two different blog commenting groups.
One is a small group of 24 people. We met through one of Yaro Starak’s coaching programs. Each day, one person takes a turn promoting a blog post. The rest of us visit their post and leave a comment. Plus we stumble, tweet and share on facebook.
The other group is public and is called “the secret is in the sauce“. Women only, mostly mommy bloggers and a whole lot of fun! Join in!
Do you lurk? I mean do you visit blogs and never comment – it’s like no one knows that you’re there?
How many comments do you normally leave each week? Do you have a plan or are you casual about your blog commenting?
My advice?
- Join a commenting group.
- Create a commenting group of your own.
- Leave a comment on this post!!
- Visit another one of my posts and leave a comment there too. What have you got to lose?
- Bloggers often visit the blogs of the people who leave comments on theirs. Get in the loop!
Here’s Yaro Starak’s point of view:
"Encourage comments on your own blog. One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. If they see people commenting on your blog then they infer that your content must be good since you have readers so they should stick around and see what all the fuss is about. To encourage comments you can simply pose a question in a blog post. Be sure to always respond to comments as well so you can keep the conversation going."Click here to download the Blog Profits Blueprint

Hi there,
Just made my first SITS visit and your comment was right before mine – what a stroke of luck!
Terrific blog, and this is a great post. Although I’m confident in so many other aspects of my life, right now I am equating my self-worth with how many comments I’m receiving! The irony is that I used to be a big-time lurker before I realized that bloggers truly do care about comments!
Thanks – I’ll be back!

I agree completely with the commenting strategy, and I also love what Yaro teaches, but the one part I find hard early on (which is now) is not having that social group of blog support. I guess that’s what blog commenting is about in the first place- building relationships and hoping for returning comments, but your post has given me interesting insight and now perhaps I shall go search for these secret groups of bloggers you talk about. I would ask to join your secret group- and although I’m told I cry like a girl, I don’t see this as being enough to fit the criteria.
Thanks again Cheryl.

Hey Alex,
As you say, you have to search for a group that’s already formed or start one yourself. Julius who often comments on TGIF might have an interest in joining in with you. You can find him through the Top Commentator “People We Love” list at the very bottom of this page or try http://www.evengrounds.com
You say that you cry like a girl? Well, I fight like a boy. Does that mean we’re a good match?
I’m sure he’d be interested in banding together with you. He’s number one on my favorite commenter list – you should be showing up on my list soon, I think

I think another benefit of commenting is the good relationship you’d eventually get from other bloggers. These kind people can even help you identify aspects in your site which you can improve to attract more visitors.
