One of your subjects is six pack abs. A friend who is a personal certified trainer at two different gyms, and I were discussing 6 pack abs. There is a lot of confusion and misinformation floating out there.

Mary referred me to her 80/20 rule. No matter how many leg lift or crunches you perform, you most likely will never see a six pack. The reason is obvious but not really pushed by many trainers. There is a layer of fat on top of most people abdominal muscles.

This is where her 80/20 rule comes in. Diet becomes the 80% and exercise becomes to 20% of what needed to get those six packs. It is extremely hard to lose weight through exercise alone. We are not talking about some fad diet but eating in a healthy nutritional lifestyle.

No more Double Cheeseburger, fries and a soda giant sized, of course. No stopping after a work for a beer or two or three or four. As you learn more about the right type of food to eat, you will learn about some super foods.

These foods are not only healthy but will help in burning fat. Use some of the energy you are now putting into exercising and apply that to what you eat.

By putting 80% of your energy into what you eat the results will amaze you. You won’t believe the results the other 20% will give you for your 6 pack abs.

My dermatologist said that folks who consume lots of water daily have less wrinkles mainly because water hydrates skin and makes it healthy. I’m sure that this is a fantastic anti-aging tip.

I see what you are referring to now Cheryl. I think your smoothie is better than juicing because you get the fiber as well as the nutrition.
I could not do brussel sprouts, but spinach would work. Do you have a plan that incorporates seasonal variation into what you make? I have read some things about seasonal instead of year round fruit consumption.
Eliminating 95% of carbs from grain sources 80-90% of the time made room in my diet for the veggies. Way to go Cheryl.

      Hi Bruce,
No, I haven’t thought yet about seasonal variety. I’m a creature of habit. I eat the same things – follow a similar menu each week. I add in new things every now and again. This new habit is important to me. I know that it’s easy for me to slip up and forget to make my smoothie for the day. Maybe adding variety will help keep me on the straight and narrow :D

Your post is a very good reminder for me. My mom and I have actually taken fruit and vegetable smoothies for a few weeks last month, but somehow this habit got lost along the way. I agree that it tastes great, and I’m planning to take up that daily habit again soon.

I’d like to ask, do you take smoothies as a substitute for your lunch or dinner? Or is it just a snack? We tried taking smoothies for our dinner but I tend to get hungry a few hours later.

      Hi Julius,
For me, the smoothie serves as my fruit and vegetables for the whole day. I have one or two servings, like a banana or an apple, for instance. But I don’t consider it a meal replacement. I get too hungry! I notice if I drink it after I train in the evenings, it works to fill the hunger gap before I go to sleep. I usually eat something light after training – I eat before training too. Usually, I follow the “eat 4 to 5 meals a day” plan. Julius!! Get back on the smoothie habit! Consider it in addition to what you’re already eating and I bet you’ll be able to stick to it. Good luck :D

      Hi Suze,
That photo of your little girl turned my veggie life around. I went out and got groceries – buying brussels sprouts on purpose. Before I added bananas, it wasn’t working for me. Once I got the mix right, I understood why your little one looked so happy with her veggie juice. Just like the story of the starfish on the beach, you helped this one – the little boy threw the starfish back into the ocean. You threw me a good idea with visual evidence and you changed my point of view on vegetables. Thank you! mwah! :D
