passion and fascination – two essential ingredients for RAOKA

Adventures in living a healthy, juicy life

RAOKA passion and fascination two essential ingredients for RAOKA

February’s Random Acts of Kick Arse (RAOKA) theme was Passion.

No, not the “From Here to Eternity” love scene on the beach kind.  That looks nice, but I’m exploring a different side of passion.

My dictionary defines passion this way: intense enthusiasm for an object or cause usually displayed as untiring activity in its support.

_____________

what are you passionate about?

Staying young – from the inside out requires that you be passionate about something.  That sparkle you get when you talk about what you are most passionate about keeps you healthy and strong. All sorts of positive emotions get released as you share your enthusiasm with others. Being able to share in your joy allows the rest of us to feel good in your presence.

Here’s an example of two young boys  (8 and 9 years of age) who share their father’s passion and enthusiasm for training in mixed martial arts.  Even if you’re not a fan of the sport, I’m sure you’ll enjoy spending some time being in their world.  These little guys have trained with UFC Hall of Famers Randy “the Natural” Couture and Mark “the Hammer” Coleman.

Here’s another example of passion expressed as love for a sport. This time from the Olympics.

I’ve never had an interest in Curling, the sport where you slide a rock down the ice to reach a target.  As I watched Sweden vs Canada in a match to determine who would win the gold in the 2010 Winter Olympics, I realized how much fun it would be to play the game called curling.  I could see myself in some frozen tundra, joining in with everyone else.  Imagine someone – way back when – probably created this game because he or she wanted something to do outside – during the cold winter months.

Curling requires intense focus and concentration. Passion for this sport was evident in the faces of these fierce competitors.  Sweden takes gold! Canada takes the silver medal.

RAOKA defined

“Random Acts of Kick Arse” or RAOKA is a movement led by Sami from lifelaughsandlemmings.  Sami’s Australian – that’s why she says “arse” instead of ass, in case you’re wondering.

In her own words, “Each month, there will be a theme with the only criteria being that it’ll involve giving back something positive in some way. At the start of the following month, we’ll share with you what we’ve achieved, what lessons we learnt and what the results were.”

Definition: Kick Arse (Oz) or kick ass (Yank)

- having a strong effect on someone or something; forceful; powerful

- exceptionally good; spectacular, impressive, etc.

Thank you for telling me where the comment box is; my sense of direction is so bad that I manage to get lost on a blog.

Wonderful post. I am passionate about performing. I found my passion early on and I am grateful. Performance is a form of creative communication. At the moment I am not performing, but thankfully blogging has provided me with another creative medium for communication.

Thank you for visiting on my SITs day! I’m sorry it took me so long to make my way over, but I’m now subscribing so I will be back. Have a great weekend.

Hey Cheryl. I gave curling a go when I lived in Canada and I have to tell you, it’s really not that easy! I had enough trouble just staying on my feet let alone getting the stone anywhere near where it should be! It was, however, heaps of fun. I managed to see the last 10 minutes of play in the gold medal game between the Swedes and the Canadians. It was fascinating to watch.

    Great RAOKA post Cheryl! Thanks.

      Hi Sami,
I realized the difficulty as I watched the women planning their next move. I wondered what sort of shoes they had on. And I did think to myself that, if I gave curling a go, I would be as attentive and competitive – and probably completely useless since my aim for things far away is dreadful. I’m much better finding people’s chins with a boxing glove at the end of my outstretched arm :D

    Hi:

I’m passionate about gourds, bottle caps, concrete. I blog (link above) about living with and creating art 24/7 in rural Oklahoma, specifically Hungry Holler Art Center in the northeast part of the state. I contend with raccoon invasions of my studio space and spending half my life looking for my damn reading glasses.

    Peace,

    Jan

      Hi Jan,
I have similar problems with my reading glasses! They go missing and I end up finding them on top of my head, in my pockets, underneath piles of papers. I have four different ones because I get so frustrated when I can’t find them! Too funny :D

Hi! Stopping by from SITs. Great post! I’m passionate about LOTS of things. I think the thing I enjoy most though is being a mom and creating a fun and caring home for my family. I love to cook, sew, craft, decorate, etc. It is just who I am and what I have wanted to be since I was a child. I also love teaching, reading and learning and feel very passionately that we need to keep learning our whole lives.

      Hi Tami,
I agree with you about the importance of being a lifelong learner. To stay young from the inside out, we need to keep our brains nimble. Lazy minds, like lazy bodies, get slow and tired. It sounds like you’ve created a cozy nest with your family. That will serve to keep your heart healthy too :D

Thinking about my answer to this post’s question, I believe I’m passionate about improving my skills in writing. I wish to improve so that I would be able to convince more readers and make them understand our cause and take necessary action related to our message.

      Hi Julius,
Your passion shows in your response. We all know what we’re passionate about. We get in the zone when we’re doing what we love. Writing is definitely your thing :D

Thanks. I was thinking about it further. I also am passionate about becoming a better person. I tend to get easily mad most of the time and my focus on things isn’t really that strong. So this is sort of like my passion and goal: to improve myself in these aspects.
