Wow what a great site! You have done such a great job of putting together great information. It’s good to see people feeling good about themselves even if they are a little larger. In the grand scheme of things it is the person you are that makes the biggest difference and feeling good about yourself is the first step to a healthy lifestyle. Keep up the fabulous work!

I adore your strapline. Just keep saying it and it will sink in.

I’ve had body image issues for most of my life. I always felt too skinny and boy like. It was hard to find clothes that fit me well, and having the most popular girl in school as my sister didn’t help.

It wasn’t until more recently that I’ve begun to really notice how hard on myself I was. And, that although I had outside influences that made me feel poorly, that I was my biggest offender!

I made fun of myself and teased myself more than anyone else ever did. I look at old pictures of myself now and I really scratch my head as to why I felt so bad about myself.

      Hi Susan,

It’s true, we are our BIGGEST critic ever!

Im glad you’re finally able to accept your body size as it is. There are so much better things to worry about :)

    Hi Ms Thought Bubble,

Sorry for the delayed response to this comment. I totally agree with you though.

Quite frankly, I know I am not skinny but I am definitely NOT obese. I feel soo much healthier being this size which is my main reason why I couldnt care less (besides, I really got more compliments bigger than skinnier anyway).

When I say my body size is not so perfect, im comparing it to Asian standards of ‘perfect’ since I am in Singapore and the majority of th€e girls here are unnaturally stick thin.

If only the stereotype was that easy to remove since the stick-thin mothers do contribute to the low self esteem for some.

Since it cant be removed any time soon, I say we embrace it! We are healthy, confident women and we do not need to DIET to feel good about our bodies or our image :)

I had a very similar experience
Antoinette, when I went to Thailand. I felt rather gigantic next to my ever so petite Thai sisters and I’m not even that big or that tall! But clearly bigger and taller than them!

I admire your ability to find reasons for accepting the way you are although I wonder why you consider your body to be ‘not-so-perfect’?

Perhaps therein lies our problem – always comparing ourselves with some ‘ideal’ version of who or how we think we could or should be.

Now, if I could just get hold of something that would completely erase that ‘ideal’ picture from my mind, I’m sure it’ll make accepting me unconditionally as I am a cinch!

      Hello Ms Thought Bubble,
Looks like Miss Antoinette hasn’t visited her post for a couple of days. I’m sure she’ll be back soon. Wiping out pictures of how “ideal” is supposed to look is a life-long battle. Optimum might work as a better measure. What works best given the circumstances. Ideal is usually a pipe dream :)

What an awesome post, Anto! (And thanks, Cheryl, for featuring her!)

I wasted about a third of my life thinking I wasn’t the right body shape or size. I obsessed about what I ate, what I didn’t eat, how much or little I exercised… I was all-consumed, and it wore me out.

Finally, I settled into how I look and who I am. It’s just a body, after all, and the people who love me love me regardless of what I look like.

A funny thing happened when I really started to love myself more and more: my body started looking more beautiful to me.

Speaking of beautiful, I think you’re it! You have a great shape, great face, beautiful smile — you’re the real deal, and I’m honored to have read your words here.

    Much love & joy!

      Hi Megan,

Thank you soo much for your kind words :) I felt exactly the way you did and it doesnt help that being in Singapore, sometimes even your family contributes to your rapid weight loss because you do not look ‘ideal’ in society’s eyes.

Im glad I realised in time that there is soo much better, healthier and worthy things to worry about instead of my weight and I hope this post would help others realise this too.

This post reminded me that we should always accept ourselves for what we are and be happy about it. I personally realize that instead of focusing on my flaws, I should recognize the good things I have. Also sometimes, I tend to look at certain things as flaws while in fact they aren’t really that bad at all.

      Hi Julius,

It’s true that we do that sometimes. Honestly, what I do now is that for every bad situation or flaw, look at the good that came out of it for it being there in the first place.

Improve on it if you can but if you can’t, there are still factors you can celebrate over :)

      Hi jcorn,
There is a wealth of info here. Best thing to do is pick one thing to focus on, one change to make and go from there :D
