Adventures in Living a Healthy, Juicy Life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
Welcome to the February 7, 2010 edition of staying young – from the inside out.
Mixed in with the mundane, we have to find things that are creative, fun and interesting to do. We feel needed, happy and alive when we’re connecting with other people whilst working on a project or joining in with some fun activity.
Wilma Mae gives us a peek into a happy adventure she shared with her family building a cabin. Her story begins just below this week’s list of interesting posts from around the web. Madeline treats us with two different funny posts this week. One ahead of time for Valentine’s Day and the other to help plan a creative, fun and interesting (road) trip.

How I Keep My Life Interesting
I have been struggling with what to do as I slowed down in my mature years.
My mind said “You have to do something fun and worthwhile.”
My body said “Wait a minute. You need to slow down and take it easy.”
Well, my son Dan, and I came up with an idea that is perfect for me!
We had bought an acreage and had a extremely difficult time getting a building permit. I had purchased a travel trailer so I could live on the land and keep an eye out on what was really happening out there, as we had a lot of trespassors and some problems with vandalism.
When my daughter and grandson were coming back to help clear brush and landscape, we realized that the travel trailor was not going to be large enough for the extra people, so we built a cabin, which had to be portable, because of not being able to obtain that blasted Building Permit.
It was a lot of fun building that cabin! And after so many compliments on it, we decided that maybe we should build more and make the cabins into a subdivision of our Construction Company.
Can you imagine the fun and creativity that I put into the floor plan and the shopping for the interior of the cabins?
It was like building a little doll house. What kind of light fixtures should I use? How small could we make the bathroom and still be functional? Should I have a bar in the kitchen, or just a small table? Should it be a Murphy Bed, or a Sofa Bed? Should there be a loft, or not? What would be the best Stain to use on the Wood finish? Do we carpet the Living Area?
The basic construction was very simple, as we were very familiar with how to build sound structures. The fun was in the shopping for all of the interior, and making a game out of how to do a fantastic design interior and do it without spending an arm and a leg.
Now, I believe that I will build a small scale cabin on wheels, and will go on the road to not only display the cabins, but also will give a great reason to travel around the United States.
You may be able to tell from this article, that I always have to have an reason for having fun. I can’t just go have fun!
Wouldn’t it be great if you saw the cabin going down the road this summer, and we had a chance to meet each other?
Maybe you will be able to come up with an idea of something you have been doing, and put a different spin on it and come up with a new business venture that is appropriate for your new lifestyle.
Wilma Mae Miller is the author of this article. She is a mature woman. She also is a successful owner of a construction business.
