Nervous people have to learn how to put their minds out of the way, to prevent adding fear to fear. After that, it’s a matter of desensitizing the body, permitting a greater sense of serenity and calm to come again.
Stacy you might want to look at the video in my link. Also google ‘panic away’ for a good program to help (no drugs or anything)

Running at your fear head on (point no 1) may work for some people for some fears – but the downside if it doesn’t work is horrendous. It is better to draw up a plan for gradually facing the fear – preferably with support – rather than head for total immersion.
Learning to deal with full blown panic attacks – which are in a different league to feeling fearful – needs to start with education about what is happening to the body. At the heart of a panic attack is this belief you are about to die – until you can genuinely believe otherwise you will struggle.

Hi David,
Yes, thanks for pointing that out. We’ve highlighted when this strategy works…not when it doesn’t. Sounds like a good topic for another post. There’s always something else waiting to test our willingness to push out the edges and conquer fear in new realms. We even say it out loud, “I thought I would die!”

I really like #3 and #5.
I think that’s my biggest mistake in life … “I think too” and in the process I become paralyzed and don’t take action in an assertive enough way to guarantee my success in business and in life.
I think 2009 has been a breaktrough year for me because I didn’t think as much and acted way more.
I didn’t feel like I needed to follow 50 gurus and read pages of content to move forward.
I’d say that 2009 was my most fearless year and I intend on keeping adding fearless years to my life.
This is a great post to read on a Sunday morning.
Thank you for the insipiration!

Good for you, Krizia!
Half the battle is noticing fear and confronting it. Most of the time, when I get too nervous, I make up an excuse labeling it something other than fear.

haha! You’re welcome, Jess.
Spiders! Yuck! On a segment of America’s Next Top Model, the girls had to pose with these enormous tarantulas. Creepy, nothing left to the imagination, big as your hand, dreadful spiders. One of the girls, took an absolutel fabulous photo even though, at first, she was nearly in tears. Sometimes, you just have to trust yourself and other people and – like Nike says, just do it.

Staci,
A late friend of mine also had a problem with panic attacks. He was an awesome guy but always convinced himself that the absolute worst was going to happen. He would panic over the tiniest things but, once he buckled down and did them, everyone always worked out perfectly.
I hope your sister is able to get past her worrying and experience the joy of a fear-free lifestyle.
Keep being awesome!

Cheryl,
I meant to add, too, that I went ahead & added the link for you to MckLinky, given that it took me all day to get the post up. I thought I would save you the trouble.

Jake,
My sister is prone to panic attacks. She works herself into them because of (3), thinking too much. For instance, over Christmas she spent an entire day asking me about how the brain works because she was convinced that her migraines meant she had a brain tumor or was about to have an aneurysm. I kept telling her that, while I’m all for people thinking, in her case she just needed to stop. I guess the “just do” in her situation would be to just get up & take a Tylenol for the headache.
Cheryl,
I sent you a DM via Twitter, but I didn’t know if this would get to you sooner. Today’s FAF post is finally up. Sorry it took so long. Next week I’ll try to write it Thursday night.
