How to Stay young from the Inside Out? Stop Worrying!

guest post by Debbie Dee

People wonder and say, “Why can’t I be happy?” The answer to that question is, “You worry too much.”  End of story!

Listen to yourself everyday and what do you really tell yourself.  “I’m worried about how I’m going to this. I’m worried about what if this happens. What is my neighbor going to think? And the list goes on.  The, what if’s, just creep in day after day.

Let’s definitely get one thing straight right now.  Regardless of the what ifs, the sun is going to come up.  There is always a possibility of a few clouds some days, but clouds are good once in a while.  They help us grow into better people.

Seems to me that people who don’t have much are the happiest people in this world.  “Why is this” you might ask?  They don’t worry!!!! They don’t care what anyone thinks or says.

The rich man worries that he still doesn’t have enough money. The middle class person worries about keeping up with neighbors. The parent worries that his or her child isn’t as smart as someone else’s child. Older people worry that they can’t retire some day – so they can sit around and do nothing, etc.

What is it that you worry about?

woman uses pretend smile masksI used to be one of those people that worried until I found out my worries were getting in my way of really solving the problem that I had for that day.  When you worry about something it stops your creative thinking and you can’t solve your problem.  This leads to unhappiness.  Not so Good!

Most of us learn this the hard way, but maybe I can help you realize it before the bottom falls out of your life.  You see, I had to really hit the bottom before I put it all together.  I was worried about keep a roof over my children’s head, food on the table and clothes on their backs.  One day it dawned on me that I was so caught up in worrying that I couldn’t think straight to solve my problems and personally couldn’t even see how very lucky I really was.

I have a sister that as all the money she could want, but became an alcoholic.  Why, because money couldn’t buy her the happiness.  People are what bring us happiness within. She sits around and worries about all the little things which drove her to drinking and forgets to enjoy what is really important. I took a different approach and learned to enjoy what was in front of me (my children).  I stopped worrying and began solving my problems one at a time.

My husband worries about having enough money to retire.  Someone told him that he would need a million dollars to retire.  Yeah, that isn’t going to happen.  What does he do? He worries about it every day.  He goes up to his computer and works on the finances, trying to put everything together. Meanwhile, I just do my own thing.  Now I could drop dead tomorrow or he could and what good did all this worrying do him?  Is he really enjoying what is around him? Not so much!

clumsy man knocking vase off pedestalI don’t know about you, but life is too short for all that worrying.  I like enjoying what is around me and if a problem (not a worry) comes up there is always a solution.

Remember this: A problem is something that has a solution or it wouldn’t be called a problem. A worry is something we waste precious time on that probably isn’t going to make any difference anyway.

Sometimes when we inject humor into our worries it makes a big difference! The sun will still rise in the morning. Worries cannot stop this.

I challenge you all to send your worries to me and let’s see if they are just a problem to be solved.  Then you can get back to choosing happiness over worries.

It is not the work that kills men; it is worry.  Work is healthy; you can hardly put more on a man than he can bear.  Worry is rust upon the blade.  It is not the revolution that destroys the machinery, but the friction.” By Henry Ward Beecher

    Hi Funny Girl -

Well, you are spoiling me – again!

Thanks for posting my article and also including a guest post on the same subject of worry.

Nice to know we are not alone.

I especially liked this quote from her article.

“Remember this: A problem is something that has a solution or it wouldn’t be called a problem. A worry is something we waste precious time on that probably isn’t going to make any difference anyway.”

Funny, my mother used to say “Twenty years from now, it won’t make any difference.”

Looking back twenty years, she was right.
    How true it is!

      Hi Corinne,
I’m delighted to spoil you. I like having you around! Very wise advice. Problems require action. It’s difficult to worry when you’re attempting to resolve the situation. Just sitting and fretting and worrying drives us all around the bend. Better to find something – anything – to do to get through those worrisome times we all encounter from time to time.
