Adventures in living a healthy, juicy life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
When I first started watching mixed martial arts fights or cage-fighting as it’s also known, I didn’t know many people who enjoyed the sport as much as me.
Meeting a woman who knew what the initials UFC stood for was really unusual. In the last two years, I’m delighted to say that I’ve found my tribe on facebook, twitter and through my martial arts school.
I realize people have strong opinions about this style of fighting. I didn’t realize people have negative opinions about women who follow the sport!
Let’s see what one man thinks of female fight fans. Greg Miles from Bloomberg TV is seen here interviewing Dana White, UFC President about a potential sale of a portion of his company.
That piece of news is interesting enough. What was more interesting to me was the casual dismissal of female fight fans by Greg after Dana has just explained that women make up 35-40% of his fan base. Take a look!
Reminder of the back story from this video
“If you’re a guy, you don’t want to go out on dates with these women (who watch UFC), right? Greg Miles, Financial Reporter, Bloomberg TV
“The girls who watch UFC are hot… you, actually, do want to go out on dates with these girls.” Dana White’s response to Greg Miles from Bloomberg TV

Obviously, Greg doesn’t have a clue about us female UFC fans. First of all, what did he expect Dana White, UFC President, to say about the people who make up 35-40% of his fan base?

That’s the original back story for why I made the following video called
“Actually, You Do Want to Date These Girls”.
I put the word out to female fight fans to send in their favorite photos featuring a female fan standing next to a UFC (or WEC) fighter. I received nearly 200 photos within a few days! Guess the girls had something to say to Mr. Miles. Check it out!
Evidence to support Dana White’s answer to an interviewer asking about UFC female fight fans. “They’re hot!”

Next installment? Listen, I’ve got over a hundred women asking me, “Hey Cheryl, where’s my photo?”
Of course, we have to do another one.
One more thing, we’re looking for a female fight fan theme song if anyone would like to write one for us.

Tight Ass Tuesday
We all fall into the same trap that Greg Miles fell into with his mistaken assumption about what female fight fans look like or act like. Sometimes, we speak carelessly and don’t realize that we might be insulting someone. Other people’s opinions often stop us from exploring or trying out new things because we don’t want to be laughed at or punished.
What are you hesitating to try because you think you’ll get feedback or disagreement or lack of support from the people in your life? Don’t get stopped by other people’s words. Take a risk! Try something new, edgy and a little bit out of your comfort zone.
Tight Ass Tuesday originally started out as a day to discuss what you’re doing to keep yourself fit and fighting trim. I intend to stretch the meaning to include more than just physical exercise. That way we can include every area of our lives. Let’s start by defining “tight ass”. There are two types of tight asses in the world:
- something good: a rear end that is exceptionally attractive, well-defined or desirable
- something not so good: someone uptight or overly cautious, a person who doesn’t enjoy anything fun, spontaneous, or interesting
My intention is to encourage you to achieve something good – physically – and to be more fun, spontaneous and interesting which leads – quite nicely, I might add – to developing habits designed to have you “Stay Young – from the Inside Out”

It was fun seeing everyone’s treasured photos. Maybe next time, we’ll see you!
Terrific post, Cheryl!
Greg Miles doesn’t listen very well, does he? Amazed to hear the $$$ numbers they were estimating the UFC to be currently valued at…300 million to 1 billion $$$$$ Yikes!
Pretty nice ROI for $2 million.
Thanks for the post!

Hey Fred,
Nice to see you! Dana White and company have done a fabulous job growing this sport. You and I both know how hard fighters work to master their sport and to keep themselves healthy and strong. They’re fun to watch and fun to support – win or lose!
That’s awesome! I saw some pics of myself with some great fighters on there! I also want to mention that I’m not only a fan but a fighter myself. I hope someday the UFC will grow enough to have females fighting too!

Hi Glena,
Me too! Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. And thank for generously sharing your treasured photo images.
I would love to interview you. I am very interested in forwarding the movement towards getting women to fight in the UFC. Dana will get used to the idea…especially if we keep talking about it. I think it’s called nagging. lol! I’ll contact you so we can set up a time to talk!
