10 Surprisingly Easy Ways to Stay Young – from the inside out
by Shannon Wills
We all want to look as young as possible for as long as possible. The more we want it, the more it seems to elude us. No matter how much we desire to drink from the fountain of youth, aging is a natural process. Growing old is not something we like to think about – mainly because of the physical changes we go through. Some people are lucky enough to look and feel younger than their age. Here’s what I think the secret is…
Consider these 10 surprisingly easy ways to stay young:
- Exercise: The best way to continue to look and feel young is to tone your body with regular exercise. If you’re not the kind to sweat it out at the gym, try playing a sport or taking a long walk every day. Besides keeping you young, exercise gives you a host of other benefits as well.
- Eat healthy food: When you eat junk food loaded with processed ingredients, oil, sugar and saturated fats, your body begins to gain weight and your skin takes on a pasty and pale appearance. Instead, eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and other foods that are rich in nutrients and low on substances that harm your health and your skin for a glowing and healthy look.
- Maintain your weight: Maintaining your weight and looking slim and sexy no matter how old you are allows you to pass for a much younger person. When you look and feel good, you naturally feel younger too.
- Be content: Being cheerful and happy makes you look and feel young. There’s nothing like a smile to light up your face and eyes and chip off those years from your birth certificate. The key to happiness is contentment with what you have and acceptance of what you get, so stay content, and stay young too.
- Groom yourself: You don’t have to go all out and spend every other day at the beauty salon; it’s enough to maintain your hair, face and nails so that you look neat and clean. Wear clothes and makeup that suit your body and skin tone instead of blindly following the latest trends. One more thing, ensure that your personal hygiene is up to scratch. - Learn: When you continue to update your knowledge regularly and keep up with the times, you don’t feel that you’re growing old. So learn something new every day, even if it’s just a minor fact, and keep your pulse on the finger of all that’s happening around you – because knowledge is power.
- Imagine: You are as young as you think you are, so never let your age become an inhibiting factor in life. If you want to run a marathon at 40, don’t let your age discourage you. If you want to go back to school at 50, forget the five decades and start out with the mind of a youngster. You can do anything you set your mind to as long as you prepare adequately and are determined enough.
- Keep up with technology: When you’re aware of all the changes that are taking place in the world of technology, you automatically tend to feel young because there’s an implicit association between youth and technology. So don’t be shy or afraid of this giant. Rather, tackle it head on and see how interesting it gets.
- Adopt a positive attitude: When you think positively in any situation, when you are proactive instead of just reactive in the face of problems and during crises, you find that your frame of mind and your go-getter nature make you feel younger than ever before.
- Reduce stress: And last, and most important of all, you must never let stress get to you because when you do, your face starts to show the ravages of time. In fact, stress ages you prematurely and makes you look older than you really are, so avoid it at all costs.

Yes, I need to stay young. Learning is good because one can never stop learning. I like to read, so that’s not a problem. Keeping up with technology though, that’s a tough ask. It’s changing so fast nowadays that even my laptop that I bought just last year is now an old model. iPod, IPad, tablet PC, xBox Kinect, etc… I just can’t keep up!

I liked that lady’s post about high heels. So funny!
As it’s coming up to January and I’m tired of making the same resolution to be better with my money, I’m going to resolve to ‘stay young’ and follow all 10 of your tips. I don’t think it’s a good start that I want that sandwich in the picture though…
Everything on that list is completely true! Seems easy enough! I think the most important are probably, be content and adopt a positive attitude.

Great list! I don’t know if I can keep myself groomed, but everything else sound good. My formula: glass of red wine, exercise (cardio and resistance), eat good food (very little sugar), lots of luv and having fun.
It works. I’m 88 years old – just look at how young I look.
