10 Surprisingly Easy Ways to Stay Young – from the inside out

by Shannon Wills

We all want to look as young as possible for as long as possible. The more we want it, the more it seems to elude us. No matter how much we desire to drink from the fountain of youth, aging is a natural process. Growing old is not something we like to think about – mainly because of the physical changes we go through. Some people are lucky enough to look and feel younger than their age.  Here’s what I think the secret is…

baconmelt baconbabblecom 300x199 10 Surprisingly Easy Ways to Stay Young from the inside out

oh my! That's quite a sandwich, isn't it?

Consider these 10 surprisingly easy ways to stay young:

  1. Exercise: The best way to continue to look and feel young is to tone your body with regular exercise. If you’re not the kind to sweat it out at the gym, try playing a sport or taking a long walk every day. Besides keeping you young, exercise gives you a host of other benefits as well.
  2. Eat healthy food: When you eat junk food loaded with processed ingredients, oil, sugar and saturated fats, your body begins to gain weight and your skin takes on a pasty and pale appearance. Instead, eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and other foods that are rich in nutrients and low on substances that harm your health and your skin for a glowing and healthy look.
  3. Maintain your weight: Maintaining your weight and looking slim and sexy no matter how old you are allows you to pass for a much younger person. When you look and feel good, you naturally feel younger too.
  4. Be content: Being cheerful and happy makes you look and feel young. There’s nothing like a smile to light up your face and eyes and chip off those years from your birth certificate. The key to happiness is contentment with what you have and acceptance of what you get, so stay content, and stay young too.
  5. Groom yourself: You don’t have to go all out and spend every other day at the beauty salon; it’s enough to maintain your hair, face and nails so that you look neat and clean. Wear clothes and makeup that suit your body and skin tone instead of blindly following the latest trends.  One more thing, ensure that your personal hygiene is up to scratch. 6. Learn: When you continue to update your knowledge regularly and keep up with the times, you don’t feel that you’re growing old. So learn something new every day, even if it’s just a minor fact, and keep your pulse on the finger of all that’s happening around you – because knowledge is power.
  7. Imagine: You are as young as you think you are, so never let your age become an inhibiting factor in life. If you want to run a marathon at 40, don’t let your age discourage you. If you want to go back to school at 50, forget the five decades and start out with the mind of a youngster. You can do anything you set your mind to as long as you prepare adequately and are determined enough.
  8. Keep up with technology: When you’re aware of all the changes that are taking place in the world of technology, you automatically tend to feel young because there’s an implicit association between youth and technology. So don’t be shy or afraid of this giant. Rather, tackle it head on and see how interesting it gets.
  9. Adopt a positive attitude: When you think positively in any situation, when you are proactive instead of just reactive in the face of problems and during crises, you find that your frame of mind and your go-getter nature make you feel younger than ever before.
  10. Reduce stress: And last, and most important of all, you must never let stress get to you because when you do, your face starts to show the ravages of time.  In fact, stress ages you prematurely and makes you look older than you really are, so avoid it at all costs.

It seems like every summer I get motivated to improve my health. Staying young from the inside out reminds me of something I’ve wanted to try – Raw Food program. I have a few books on the subject and as I recall you need to start slowly on this plan as your body adjusts to it. This would be a great time for me to start.

    Thanks

I love this list. I can agree with everything on it, looking and feeling good starts from the inside and moves outwards. Laughing as much as possible helps too, trust me! Eating well really works too, I’ve tried it.

This is a really excellent site, some really great advice here. I’ve really enjoyed reading it. If only it was so easy to reduce stress though. Any more advice on how to do that would be really welcome.

Well, there was a time when I couldn’t stand the idea of exercising. But once my best friend forced me to go with her to a high energy dance class, I couldn’t believe how much fun I had. I haven’t stopped going since that first time. It makes it so much easier to stay young and stay in shape.
