Stay Young Habit #7:
Be Interesting
Don’t Blend in with the Wallpaper
Do you ever get bored with yourself? Even worse, do your friends let you know that you’re – dull? Help is on the way! Nik Karlil from PersonalDevelopmentPro.net and Jason Peck from RoommateFail.com are here with some ideas to help you be more interesting.
- Be unpredictable: Predictable is boring. Having a timetable is predictable. Cracking the same joke over and over is predictable. So is going to the same restaurant for lunch. When’s the last time you tried something new and different? Find new ways to solve problems.
- Be humorous: We all love laughing our ass off from time to time. A person who’s funny is almost guaranteed to be interesting and catches our attention. Though it may sound simple, being funny is an art and mastering it requires some hard work. Consider the following story submitted by Jason Peck from RoommateFail.com – “Bad roommates suck, but at least they make good stories.”

The Ultimate Roommate Snore Stopper
I’ve had my share of roommates with issues. One wore his own wisdom tooth around his neck. Another smelled really bad in the morning. One year, I shared a dorm room with a guy who snored – loudly – like wake-up-the-dead, bring-back-the-dinosaurs-from-extinction loud. RoommateFail!
Yelling, “Stop snoring biatch!” during the night didn’t work. I’d have to yell at him over and over before he would wake up. He’d fall back to sleep and start snoring again a few minutes later.
I had to take action.
First, I tried throwing hats at him. I’d keep a few in my bed and throw one at his face as soon as his snores and honks woke me up. When the hats connected with their target, he stopped snoring. But, at random times during the night, I wasn’t the most accurate hat-thrower. Sometimes, I’d throw 8 hats during the night and would run out. Then it was back to yelling at him to shut up. I needed a different approach.
I started sleeping with a gun under my pillow – a $10 water-gun from Walmart. Whenever the dude snored, I’d bust out my water-gun and squirt him in the eyes, nose, mouth…whatever it took to get him to stop.
It worked! This is the ultimate roommate snore stopper. Quick and effective. I highly recommend it. Sometimes my roommate would wake up in the morning and complain that his pillow was wet. I told him he needed to quit drooling in his sleep.

What’s next on the list?
- Get an outdoor hobby: If you’re always in your room, in front of your computer or the TV, you need to get out of the house. Staying in is not cool or interesting. There are so many awesome things you can do outside. Don’t stay confined to your 4 wall prison. There’s basketball, football, soccer, tennis, martial arts, badminton, break dancing, wall climbing, swimming, snooker, diving, golf, parkour and the list goes on. Everyone needs an outdoor hobby. Get out of your room! What’s parkour? Glad you asked. Check out this video:
The colorful Brit-speak at the end of the video loosely translates to
“Jolly good show, old chap! Have a drink on me.”
- Explore the world: The world’s largest swimming pool, the last standing 7 wonders of the ancient world, the new 7 wonders of the world, the 100 best dive sites or the 9 best train journeys. I can write a full list of destinations, but you get the point. Traveling is great fun. There’s so many things to see and so many cultures to learn and experience. My dream is to travel across the world. Life is an adventure, right?
- Have clear goals: We all have a thing for people who are focused and know what they want in life. Indecisive is boring and frustrating to watch. If you don’t have a goal, it’s about time you find one. It doesn’t really matter if your goal is small. Goals bring purpose to your life.

I’d like to hear your thoughts
Now it’s your turn. What will you do to make yourself more interesting?
The difference between being interesting and boring? Sometimes, when we’re bored, it’s because we’re afraid to try new things, envious of what other people are doing or unwilling to do anything to change our situation. The only person who can make the switch from being invisible – blending in with the wallpaper – to being vibrant, alive and sought out by others – is you.
That’s living life juicy! That’s Staying Young – from the Inside Out. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
