Adventures in Living a Healthy, Juicy Life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
Last Saturday, I injured my left ankle during Jiu Jitsu class. Had to miss training for an entire week! Usually, I go back too early after an injury and then end up missing a second week. So frustrating! This time, I sat still allowing the swelling to go down assisted by ice packs and my favorite reality TV shows.
Mid-week, I realized something was missing – popcorn with butter and Haagen-Dazs ice cream. I allowed myself to slide out of my disciplined martial arts eating plan, I found my favorite flavor, caramelized pear with toasted pecans. Ooh! On sale! I bought the last four remaining containers. At the cash register, I read through the list of ingredients and chose to ignore the words “corn syrup” written on the label.
Remember when sugar was just sugar? I grew up in London with Tate & Lyle’s brand sugar. According to Wikipedia, the Guiness Book of World Records says that Lyle’s Golden Syrup is Britain’s oldest brand.
I like sugar. I’ve never gone an entire day without it. I have no intention of ever giving it up. Luckily, I’m not alone in my addiction. According to buzz.io, the top 3 facebook fan pages are:
- President Obama
- Coca-Cola
- Nutella
Since I’ve been watching more TV, I’ve seen more commercials. I caught a Nutella advert that shocked me. Flagrant misrepresentation! Nutella is a delicious, but really sweet, chocolate-hazelnut spread. About half of the calories come from fat. The TV mom said something to the effect of Nutella on whole grain toast is a “healthy” breakfast. I almost fell off the couch laughing. Jumpstart your children with some yummy “nutritious” Nutella!
Britain banned a different version last year. Click this link to see the 30 second ad.
So much sugar! Makes you wonder how anybody lives to be a ripe old age. Here’s someone who’s living a healthy, juicy life in his golden years. Meet Banana George, accomplished and world-renowned barefoot water skier. He’s in his nineties. Still rocking “Hot Chicks and Cool Cars”, Georgie’s been around long enough to have grown up eating everything we’re not supposed to be eating now. Let’s see how he turned out…click the play button on the video below.
Banana George is living juicy! He is – STILL – an amazing barefoot water-skier. If you want to be like Banana George surrounded by hot chicks and driving a cool car, stay active and take good care of your body! That’s good advice, George.
Speaking of bodies, it’s time for me to get back to training and back on my disciplined eating plan. Um, just as soon as I finish my Haagen-Dazs.
Please share your comments! We love to hear from you.

I agree that it’s not indeed healthy. Banana George is cool. Thank you for the tips that you share.
I guess this means that I should stop eating Nutella for breakfast every day

Nutella is tasty, but I agree that it’s not indeed healthy. Banana George is cool! I hope I’ll also be so energetic in his age.:)
