Adventures in Living a Healthy, Juicy Life
by Cheryl Ragsdale
Welcome back to another installment of Fmylife (FML) vs. MakesMeThink (MMT). After making my selections for this week’s FML vs. MMT, I noticed something interesting. As I read each story, I forgot to register my vote by clicking my response. I wonder if people feel better knowing that lots of people agree with their suffering as demonstrated by the number of votes they’ve received. Maybe getting attention from thousands of people helps them feel better. Consider the alternative: having something dreadful happen and then no one noticing. Ugh! Fmylife.
Today, my girlfriend dumped me proclaiming she wanted someone more like her “Edward”. I asked her who Edward was. She held up a copy her “Twilight” book. She was talking about a fictional vampire. FML I agree, your life sucks (255,151) – you totally deserved it (36,947) On 02/05/2009 at 7:06am – love – by Noname – United States (Illinois)
Today, I found out the high school I have been doing at home for the past 3 years isn’t accredited and doesn’t count for anything. I’m 18 and starting high school as a freshman next year. FML I agree, your life sucks (23,994) – you totally deserved it (7,326) On 09/14/2009 at 2:58pm – misc – by diplomaless (woman) – United States (Florida)
Today, I accidentally left the tag on the new pants that I wore to work. Nobody had brought it to my attention for the whole day until finally, before I was about to go home, every single employee and my boss let me know by yelling in unison and laughing as I left the building. FML I agree, your life sucks (16,096) – you totally deserved it (3,816) On 09/12/2009 at 10:35pm – work – by Tagged (man) – United States (Illinois)
Today, I was leaving my job at a huge mall. I couldn’t find my car anywhere, so I panicked and flagged a security officer. I cried while he drove me around for miles in the endless parking lot. Then, suddenly, I remembered. My friend had dropped me off in the morning. FML I agree, your life sucks (4,301) – you totally deserved it (28,981) On 09/10/2009 at 10:15am – work – by ritz (woman) – United States (Florida)
Today, I got stuck in an elevator for 45 minutes. I am an elevator mechanic. FML I agree, your life sucks (23,543) – you totally deserved it (3,205) On 09/10/2009 at 2:02am – work – by Anonymous (man) – United States (Washington)
Whew! Enough of that, let’s move onto lighter topics. I noticed something else as I read through the stories on MMT. The numbers of votes are smaller. Does that mean that people are forgetting to vote? Does it mean that we (collectively) have forgotten that every vote counts? Maybe people who are having happy events happen in their lives don’t need the reinforcement of the masses like the FML people seem to need.
Today, I waited on an elderly woman at the local restaurant where I work. She left me a $90 tip on a $10 tab with a handwritten note that said, “I’m 86 and I can’t take this money with me. So please spoil yourself with it.” MMT #12 (1) – Jul 23, 2009 by Drew – Happy – Yes, that made me think too! (2,622) – No, that made me sleepy. (120)
Today, I interviewed a woman who is terminally ill. “So,” I tried to delicately ask, “What is it like to wake up every morning and know that you are dying?” “Well,” she responded, “What is it like to wake up every morning and pretend that you are not?” MMT #178 (1) – Aug 11, 2009 by Suzie – Miscellaneous – Yes, that made me think too! (2,374) – No, that made me sleepy. (48)
Today, my teacher told me to “make a good day.” I replied, “Don’t you mean ‘have a good day?’” He smiled and said, “No, you can’t have a good day, you need to make it a good day.” MMT #1059 (1) – Sep 13, 2009 by xcaththatsmex – Inspiring – Happy thinking! (197)- No, that made me sleepy. (10)
Today I was approached by a homeless man who asked if I had any change. I only had two dimes, but I gave it to him anyway. As I watched him walk away, he put the dimes in an expired parking meter of a strangers car. MMT #1057 (1) – Sep 13, 2009 by Richmond – Inspiring – Yes, that made me think too! (369) – No, that made me sleepy. (9)
Today, my grandfather told me, “Stop worrying so much. Worry is using your imagination to create things you don’t want.” MMT #1080 (0) – Sep 14, 2009 by daily pivoter – Inspiring – Yes, that made me think too! (150) – No, that made me sleepy. (6)
Staying positive in the face of life’s ups and downs requires discipline. It’s really easy to get caught up in the drift of negative thinking. Other people drain our energy with their hard-luck stories. To support the mission of the www.MakesMeThink.com team,
- please remember to submit your inspiring stories!
- remember to vote!
