Signing onto twitter was easy enough, but after spending a few minutes reading other people’s tweets, I didn’t see what all the fuss was about. I love facebook! It’s so easy. It’s so clear. Who are all of these strangers and what are they talking about? I got confused.
But I didn’t give up. I invested time and $15 in Joel Comm’s most recent social media book called twitter power. He walked me through twitter nation step by step. His most brilliant suggestion, the one that parted the clouds for me, was to download tweetdeck, a desktop manager for twitter. It was free to install. Free is good. I liked that idea!
OMG! Organization. Everything laid out in 4 columns – including facebook! Beautiful! Next thing you know, I’m tweeting back and forth with people I’ve never met. I even tweeted with famous people. No, I’m not saying who – you had to be there.
Things happen fast on twitter. It’s like being at a party and having a conversation with someone. You hang around until you get bored (or they do) and then you move on to the next person. No hard feelings. It’s great. What a difference! Before, I couldn’t figure out how to have conversations develop just by looking at the long pages of tweets inside twitter world.
The most interesting people to follow are sharing what’s happening in their lives. Some people share links to stuff they like. People discuss their projects or whatever it is they’re selling. Just read the tweets you’re interested in reading. The opportunity exists to find people who want to talk about random topics that I like to talk about, but no one else around me does. It’s cool! You can share your passion with like-minded people. You can talk to old friends and make some new ones.
Nothing on twitter is private. And you really do have to hit the “reply to” button or type in the recipient’s address or else the message goes onto the general timeline and the person you were sending the message to might not see it. I don’t know how you’d ever see it without tweetdeck. Oh, and speaking of seeing things, scroll down to the bottom of the page to see my live tweet feed. Yup, that’s me. Tweeting away. Next time, I’m in deep conversation with someone famous, what I say will show up there. But you have to be here to see it! So check back often! Or maybe, by now, I’ve convinced you to open your own twitter account. If that’s true for you, then please follow me! Enter my name, Cheryl Ragsdale, or thatgirlisfunny to find me on www.twitter.com Then you and I can chat live!
This isn’t something I would have figured out on my own. I just would have stuck with facebook. Now, my worlds are expanding with access to both. Join us! Sign up for twitter today! It’s free!
I plugged in the widgets that Joel recommended to my www.thatgirlisfunny.com blog. Some of them, I liked. Some, I didn’t. You can see the results here on this page. Press the green tweet button, if you got to this page because you saw a tweet link that brought you here. That’s called re-tweeting. LOL! That counter lets us know how many times we’ve been tweeted.
Please help us succeed in our mission to spread love and laughter around the globe. Just think, because you tweeted, someone, somewhere, is smiling and laughing. Pay it forward. Be the ripple that reaches out and changes someone’s life. Be generous. Share yourself and share us. Please tweet our posts.
One last thing, what are you learning that’s new today? What about twitter?
Go public: We love comments! Please leave one telling us what new things you’re trying out.
